SOLIDARITY WITH KABYLIA

dimanche 5 mars 2023, par Masin

[fond or]STATEMENT - PÉTITION[/fond or]

For decades, the Algerian regime has been tormenting Kabylia in order to bring it to its knees, using the most brutal repression. In 2001, it used weapons of war against Kabyle civilians, killing 130 people and injuring thousands, including several hundreds who are disabled for life.

Since the summer of 2021, the regime has been using a different method, one of the most treacherous. It uses judicial punishment and started to arrest hundreds of of citizens in the towns and villages of Kabylia. The regime’s well-honed judicial machinery handed them heavy jail sentences. These citizens have been the victims of humiliation, arbitrariness , and mistreatment. Some have even been victim of torture and rape. The Algerian regime targets all of those who have Kabylia in their heart and act in its favor. Artists and intellectuals have not been spared and are subjected to the arbitrariness of this regime. Kabylia is this facing a state terrorism aiming at it annihilation.

We, the signatories of this declaration, denounce the arbitrary policies of the Algerian State and its relentless attacks on Kabylia where it commits blatant injustice. We express our complete solidarity with the Kabyle Amazigh activists and their families who are victims of the arbitrariness of the Algerian state.

We urge Kabylia and its people to persist in their resistance against the regime’s Arab-Islamist ideology with its dogged determination to eradicate the Amazigh identity. Kabylia plays an important role in the fight for Amazigh identity ; it has always served as the example for all Imazighen across Tamazgha. They need it to remain standing and proud.

The most basic human rights are denied in Kabylia. The complete and echoless silence surrounding the ongoing repression in this region is distressing. The international community, and France in particular, have held an attitudes that is tantamount to a collusion with the Algerian regime. Human rights organizations have had very little interest on the ongoing distressful developments in this corner of the world.

These developments call for a large mobilization and the consolidation of all efforts to put an end to these repressive policies which aim to silence the Amazigh people, and complete their forced assimilation.

To counter this unbearable situation that Kabylia is experiencing, we pledge our support to all the initiatives and mobilizations of the Imazighen across all of Tamazgha (North Africa) and the diaspora in order to put and end to the daily arbitrariness that the Amazigh activists in Kabylia are suffering at the hands of the Algerian state. All the Kabyle citizens who are languishing in Algerian prisons must be released.
